A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT AND THE GOING OUT OF BUSINESS SALE

 
As we near the end of our 2 1/2 decade R/C retail journey, I want to take a minute and recap the past 25 years and give some thanks. You may not know much about our history, but we actually began this giant Internet adventure just after the turn of the millennium with our first retail website, DarnCoolStuff.com. As you can probably guess from the title, we sold some really cool products, but the best of these - our real passion - was radio control. 

Less than 2 years later, we decided to go all-in with R/C, and that was the birth of RC Hobby Explosion. This was a very exciting time because this was the dawn of e-commerce. eBay was just getting off the ground and 99 out of 100 people had no idea who or what Amazon was. Small businesses were popping up all over the Internet, and shopping and making purchases from the comfort of our own homes was a very intriguing and attractive proposition. 

Even though the Internet was quickly proving itself to be the new medium for commerce, brick and mortar stores still had an important role in retail sales. It didn't take long until we opened our first retail R/C store in Prosper, Texas. This gave our local customers a place to come and see first-hand the latest technology in radio control. We had a lot of fun demonstrating the speed, power, and controllability of R/C cars and trucks on the street in front of that store. All the while we had a curious eye on us from our neighbors across the street - the Prosper Police Department. They would often give us a concerned look followed by a grin when we raced our RCs at speeds "possibly" in excess of the posted speed limits. These were great times. 

Over those early years, we witnessed a major leap in the evolution of R/C performance and technology with the advent of brushless motors and LiPo batteries. Today, these are the foundation upon which our cars, trucks, boats, and planes are powered. And the ease with which someone could step into this hobby became so great, with ready-to-run vehicles and ready-to-fly airplanes widely available in many scales and exciting designs. With all of the options available, anyone who wanted to step outside and experience the thrill of R/C could do so - and at just about any budget.

Getting to provide our customers with cool, fun products for so long has been a blessing for us as a family-owned company. Thus, it is with much sadness that we have come to the point of saying goodbye. But before we leave, we want to take a moment and give thanks to all of the customers who have supported us over the past 25 years. We boast an unheard of return customer rate, with an impressive body of loyal repeat customers, some of whom have been with us almost since the beginning. We thank each and every one of you and wish you the best as you continue your pursuit of the next R/C adventure!
